E350 battery died after just 18 months - should I go back to the dealer or find someone else? (73 อ่าน)

I'm really annoyed right now. I bought a new battery for my 2018 E350 from a general auto shop about 18 months ago, and this morning the car wouldn't start again. Slow crank, click click click, and then nothing. I had to take my wife's car to work and now I'm sitting here wondering where I went wrong. I remember when I got the battery replaced last time, the guy at the shop said something about Mercedes needing the battery to be "registered" to the car's computer, but he said it wasn't necessary and just swapped it out. Now I'm thinking maybe that's why this battery didn't last as long as it should have. I live near the Musaffah area and I've seen a few workshops around there that work on European cars, but I'm not sure which ones actually know what they're doing with the coding and registration stuff. I definitely don't want to go back to the same place that didn't register it properly. I'm looking for Professional battery maintenance for Mercedes Benz vehicles in Musaffah Gardens because I figure if they specialize in Mercedes they'll know about the battery registration process and have the proper diagnostic tools. Has anyone here had their Mercedes battery replaced at a shop in Musaffah that did the registration properly? I'd rather not go to the dealership and pay their premium prices, but I also don't want to end up with another dead battery in a year and a half. I've also heard that these cars need an AGM battery specifically because of the stop-start system, and I'm starting to wonder if the previous shop put the wrong type of battery in as well. Would appreciate any recommendations from people who've been through this.

AGM specification being mandatory rather than optional for the E350 with stop start is the first thing to confirm with any workshop before they touch the car. The stop start system cycles the battery hundreds of times more frequently than a standard vehicle and conventional batteries simply aren't built for that duty cycle regardless of their CCA rating. Any workshop that doesn't immediately confirm AGM when you mention the E350 hasn't demonstrated the Mercedes knowledge worth trusting for this job.

Your suspicion about both the wrong battery type and missing registration being the cause of the eighteen month failure is almost certainly correct honestly. A conventional battery instead of AGM combined with no registration is exactly the combination that produces premature failure on an E350 with stop start.

Battery registration on Mercedes vehicles being the step that previous shop dismissed as unnecessary is genuinely what shortened the lifespan of your last battery. Without registration the BMS continues operating on the charging algorithm calibrated for the old degraded battery which means the new battery is chronically under or overcharged from day one depending on the state of the old one. Over eighteen months that incorrect charging accumulates enough damage to explain exactly what you've experienced. Any Mercedes specialist worth using will register the battery as standard procedure without needing to be asked.

Asking any workshop specifically what diagnostic tool they use for Mercedes battery registration before booking confirms whether they actually have the capability or are just confident they can figure it out.

Musaffah having several European car specialists with genuine Mercedes capability is realistic and the dealer premium for this specific job isn't justified once you find someone properly equipped. The key combination to look for is confirmed AGM stock in the correct specification for your E350 variant and Mercedes diagnostic software for registration included in the quoted price. Getting both confirmed before anyone starts work protects you from a third battery replacement in another eighteen months.
