I've been noticing over the past few weeks that my 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia has started making this annoying clunking noise whenever I go over speed bumps or uneven roads, especially at low speeds. It sounds like it's coming from the front left corner, and it's getting progressively worse to the point where I'm now actively avoiding certain roads just to not hear it. I've had a quick look underneath and I can't see anything obviously broken or leaking, but I'm not exactly a mechanic either so I could be missing something serious. I know the Giulia has a pretty sophisticated suspension setup with the double wishbone at the front and the multi-link at the rear, and I've read that the bushings and control arms can wear out over time, especially with the kind of heat we get here and the less than perfect road surfaces in some areas. I'm also aware that the adaptive dampers on the Veloce models can be expensive to replace if they fail, so I'm really hoping it's just a worn bushing rather than a full damper replacement. The car has just under 90,000 kilometers on it so it's definitely at that age where suspension components start to wear. I want to get it properly diagnosed and fixed before it causes any uneven tire wear or affects the handling, because the way this car handles is one of the main reasons I bought it in the first place. I've been looking for a workshop that really understands the intricacies of these cars and doesn't just guess at the problem. I've heard that finding a place offering Premium Alfa Romeo Repair in ICAD is the way to go if you want quality work on these complex Italian machines. Does anyone have experience with suspension issues on their Giulia or Stelvio, and if so, what was the culprit and roughly how much did it cost to fix? Front left clunk over speed bumps at low speed is classic for a worn control arm bushing or a tired sway bar end link. End links are cheap and take maybe half an hour, so rule that out first. Have someone rock the wheel top to bottom with the car jacked up and you'll usually feel the play.

Had almost the same noise on my Stelvio around 80k km. Turned out to be the front upper control arm bushing, and the fix wasn't as bad as I feared. Do the alignment right after the parts go in or you'll chew through a tire.

Be careful with anyone who just says "it's the dampers" after a quick drive. Dampers usually give a floaty or bouncy feel before they clunk, and I'd doubt it's that at 90k. Ask the shop to show you the worn part on the lift before you approve anything.

With that mileage and our roads, rubber bushings baking in the heat is the most likely story. The front knuckle and lower arm bushes go first on these, and the noise gets louder when it's cold or when you turn slightly over a bump. Also check the strut top mount, it can knock the same way.

Does the clunk happen only over bumps, or also when you brake or turn into a corner? That would narrow it down a lot. Also, is your car on the standard dampers or the adaptive ones, since that changes what a worst case bill looks like?
