I've been noticing over the past couple of weeks that my Sonata's transmission has started jerking when I accelerate from a stop, especially when the car is cold, and it's making me pretty nervous because I know transmission issues can get expensive really quickly if you don't address them early. It's not slipping or anything dramatic, but there's a definite harshness to the shifts that wasn't there before, and I can feel it most when I'm driving in stop-and-go traffic. I've already checked the transmission fluid and it looks clean and at the right level, so I'm thinking it might be something more internal like a solenoid issue or maybe the valve body is starting to act up. I really don't want to take it to the dealer because I know they'll charge a fortune just for the diagnostic, and I've heard that there are independent workshops that specialise in Korean cars and can do the same work for much less. I've been searching for a reliable Hyundai garage in Abu Dhabi that actually knows these transmissions and can properly diagnose what's going on without just guessing and replacing parts. Has anyone here had transmission work done on their Sonata or similar Hyundai model locally, and if so, what was your experience like? I'm really hoping this isn't going to be as bad as I'm imagining.
