Sonata's transmission is jerking – any good Hyundai garages around? (203 อ่าน)

27 ก.ค. 2569 15:03

I've been noticing over the past couple of weeks that my Sonata's transmission has started jerking when I accelerate from a stop, especially when the car is cold, and it's making me pretty nervous because I know transmission issues can get expensive really quickly if you don't address them early. It's not slipping or anything dramatic, but there's a definite harshness to the shifts that wasn't there before, and I can feel it most when I'm driving in stop-and-go traffic. I've already checked the transmission fluid and it looks clean and at the right level, so I'm thinking it might be something more internal like a solenoid issue or maybe the valve body is starting to act up. I really don't want to take it to the dealer because I know they'll charge a fortune just for the diagnostic, and I've heard that there are independent workshops that specialise in Korean cars and can do the same work for much less. I've been searching for a reliable Hyundai garage in Abu Dhabi that actually knows these transmissions and can properly diagnose what's going on without just guessing and replacing parts. Has anyone here had transmission work done on their Sonata or similar Hyundai model locally, and if so, what was your experience like? I'm really hoping this isn't going to be as bad as I'm imagining.

Harsh shifts that only show up cold are often a software or adaptation issue, not internal damage. Ask whoever looks at it to check for a TCM update and clear the adaptive values before anyone mentions solenoids or a valve body. That's a much cheaper first step.

Clean fluid at the right level is a good sign, but which Sonata is it, and how many km is it on? The 6-speed and the 8-speed behave quite differently, and the usual culprits change a lot depending on the generation. Mileage would help people point you the right way.

My old Sonata did exactly this in stop-and-go traffic. A full fluid drain and refill with the correct Hyundai spec fluid, then a relearn, smoothed it out completely. Top-ups don't do much, and the wrong fluid can make it worse, so check what they actually use.

Be careful with anyone who says "valve body" before doing a scan. A proper diagnostic means pulling codes, checking live data and doing a road test with a scanner hooked up. If a shop quotes parts without showing you any of that, I'd walk out.

Worth noting the link in the post reads more like a plug than a search for opinions. Better to ask around for names and real invoices from people who've had the same jerky shift fixed. Whatever garage you pick, get the diagnosis and quote written down before they start.
